DDC conducted a focused training program titled Basic Steel Structure to strengthen the expertise of structural engineers in steel design. Guided by an in-house trainer, participants explored both theoretical principles and hands-on applications, covering material behavior, structural modeling, and fabrication techniques with industry-standard software and practices.

The objectives of this eight-day training were as follows:
Ø Equip engineers with knowledge of steel structural behavior and design principles under various loads.
Ø Ensure participants can apply relevant codes and standards for safe and efficient steel design.
Ø Introduce software tools for analysis, design, and connection detailing.
Ø Build understanding of fabrication, welding practices, and erection methods for shed-type and multistoried structures.

ü Introduction to steel structures and applicable codes
ü Overview of software for structural modeling and connection design

ü Design principles for members under tension
Session 3:
ü Design principles for members under compression
Session 4:
ü Design principles for flexural members
Session 5:
ü Design of members for shear and combined loading conditions
Session 6:
ü Practical demonstration of modeling and analysis in ETABS and Staad.Pro
Session 7:
ü Design and detailing of structural connections
Session 8:
ü Complete workflow of steel structures: from GA drawings to erection
The eight sessions, each of two hours’ duration, were designed to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of steel structures, covering member design, connections, modeling, and fabrication workflow. The program concluded with participants applying the concepts learned to solve practical steel structure problems, with their knowledge evaluated through a quiz held on the last day.
